Staff Engineer

Robertson-Bryan, Inc. (RBI), a multi-disciplinary consulting firm of engineers and scientists that provides water and power resource engineering and environmental services, has an immediate opening for a full-time entry-level Staff Engineer in our Elk Grove, California office. We are looking for a highly qualified, industrious, and motivated individual to work on a variety of water, wastewater, and recycled water projects. The ideal candidate will support both the water quality and environmental engineering groups, with a greater emphasis placed on engineering work. We offer flexible working hours and an excellent salary/benefits package.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performing engineering work in water and wastewater treatment and conveyance infrastructure planning and design projects
  • Performing engineering work in recycled water permitting and conveyance infrastructure planning and design projects
  • Performing environmental modeling
  • Designing and implementing engineering or scientific field studies
  • Environmental permitting
  • Preparation of technical memoranda, reports, and electronic deliverables
  • Data entry and analysis
  • Preparing cost estimates for various water and wastewater projects
  • Participation in field activities such as taking water and sediment samples


Required Skills

  • Application of engineering principles including critical thinking, analysis, and innovative techniques
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively with clients and project team
  • Highly motivated and articulate
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Work well in a team environment and independently in a smaller office environment


Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited university. MS preferred with emphasis in Civil/Environmental Engineering
  • Possession of Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or intention to obtain


Preferred Experience

  • 0 to 3 years of directly-relevant experience in environmental consulting, water, or wastewater engineering
  • Experience and proficiency with AutoCAD
